Snicker:  Happy Fall, everyone!  Snicker here with my next interview.  Today I get to

interview a real Princess - our own “Princess” Popcorn, that is!  Welcome Princess

Popcorn, and thank you for letting me interview you.

Popcorn:  Nice to talk to you, Snicker.  They tell me that you’re the mayor of BCR - that’s

cool!  This is a real treat for me.  Oh, and you can just call me Popcorn, I like that.

Snicker: Ok!  Please tell us how you came to BCR.

Popcorn:  Well, I’m a very lucky kitty.  Actually, Mom Alana says I’m lucky to even be

alive at all.  I somehow got in the middle of a road because I can’t see.  I didn’t know I

was in danger but a very nice lady driving down the road saw me and thought I was dead

in the road.  That’s pretty upsetting.  As she drove past me, I raised my head and she saw

me do it.   She knew in her heart that she couldn’t leave me there so she stopped, picked

me up and took me to her house.  Pretty fast she realized that I wasn’t injured but that I

was not in very good shape and that I couldn’t see.

Snicker:   Wow!  That’s amazing and you are very lucky she stopped and picked you up.

Popcorn:   For sure!  But there’s even more to this story.  The next day, the nice lady

realized she didn’t know how to care for a blind cat so she made some phone calls and

one was to Mom Alana here at BCR.   She told her that I was a mess.  My eye sockets

were infected, I wasn’t what they call “fixed” yet and I had a painful tumor filling up my

ear.  One of my paws had been hurt for a long time and I was very itchy with fleas.

Honestly, I felt so bad that I wondered if I would live.

Snicker:  I’m really glad she found us here at BCR, Popcorn!!

Popcorn:  Me, too!  The minute I got here, Mom Alana and the other humans started

taking care of me so I felt better fast.  They made my itching go away first and gave me

some awful tasting stuff for my tummy - they said I had worms.  I went in another car

pretty fast to a funny smelling place with other animals there.

Snicker:  I know all about that place!  I’ve been there myself - more than I’d like!

Popcorn:  They made me take other stuff to make my eyes feel better - they called it

“antibiotics.”   They did some scary tests on me and said I was very anemic and that I

needed to rest and put on some weight before they could help me any more.  Things

really started looking up now because I got to eat all the food I wanted and I didn’t even

have to go hunting for it - it came to me!   I felt so much better and not scared any more.

The people at the other place with the animals took away my ear tumor and I didn’t have

to take any more antibiotics either!  Once I realized I didn’t have to be afraid or hungry

anymore I was so happy!

Snicker:  I can’t see either but the cats who can tell me that you are very pretty.

Popcorn:   Well, I’m blushing under my white fur!  It’s nice of you to say that since I

know I only have three legs.

Snicker: What?  How in the world did that happen?

Popcorn:   I had a couple of accidents after I got here.   In April 2012,  I was having a

little fun running and jumping around the room when I took a flying leap, fell and

managed to break my leg.  I know….stupid!  Mom Alana took me right back to that other

place with animals and they fixed it with a bone plate.  They thought I was ok but a few

months later, I didn’t feel so good.  The sweet humans here noticed right away that I

wasn’t using the hurt leg when I played with my room-cats. One of them picked me up

and my leg just flopped!   Mom Alana rushed me to that other place again and they all

agreed that my leg was still broken!

Snicker: Ouch!  That must have hurt.  Are you ok talking about this with me?

Popcorn:   I don’t mind. My tale just shows how much Mom Alana and the kind humans

care about us!  My leg did hurt, believe me!   It’s not just that it was broken, the new

break was above the first one, which wasn’t healed either!  So, I hurt a lot.  First they put

on something called splint and gave me some medicine to help me not hurt so much.

Pretty soon I went to another place with animals and another human looked at my leg - he

was called a vet - an “animal orthopedic specialist.”  That’s a long name.

Snicker:  Wow - another vet!  You had to be pretty scared.

Popcorn:  I heard that one tell Mom Alana that they could do some horrible thing called a

bone graft, which might not heal up or they could just take my leg away.   I know Mom

Alana thought really hard about what to do and what would give me a better life.  She

finally told me that my best choice for a long and happy life would be to take my leg

away.

Snicker: You must have been really scared about that.

Popcorn:  I was for a minute, but I could feel that Mom Alana’s was so worried about me

and upset by everything else that had happened to me.  I knew she would make the best

decision for me.  Later that day, they took me into a room and I took a really good nap.

When I work up, Mom Alana was right there to make me feel safe again even though my

leg was gone.

Snicker:  So, are you what I hear people call a tripod kitty?

Popcorn:  YEP!  And I like that description.  I’m special!

Snicker:  I have to ask one other personal question.  Sometimes the other kitties see you

walk in circles.  Is that from the surgery?

Popcorn:   It’s ok Snicker, it’s not that personal.   I walk in circles because sometimes I

lose my balance.  That’s because the thing in my ear came back and ever since they took

it out, I sometimes do that.  But that doesn’t keep me from playing with shoes and

feathers and getting in line for the yummy food we get to eat.

Snicker:  Popcorn,  you really had a rough start.  But I’m happy you’re here with me and

our fellow BCR cats.  Don’t you think this place is great?

Popcorn:   Yes it is!  I always feel loved and I’m never hungry or cold and there are lots

of people to pet me and play with me.  I know everyone here loves us.  Sometimes Mom

Alana tells some extra-special people how I’m doing - they are called sponsors I think.

Their names are Kimberly, Michael and their cats, Grace and Carmine Guadagno, Beth,

Doreen, Tina, Robert, Alicia and by Wanda in memory of her Miss Kitty and in honor of

Helen.  They must be REALLY nice people!

Snicker:  I think they are, too!  We always feel so grateful for sponsorship and all those

boxes full of food, supplies and even beds for us to sleep in!  You can’t see it, Popcorn,

but your room-cats tell me that you have a special pink bed all your own!

Popcorn:  Really?  There is one bed that I really like - I bet it’s that one!

Snicker:  Thanks again for talking with me, Popcorn!  I want to tell every one that they

can watch all of us during chat and boxes times at night and on the tours.  Popcorn, they

put the camera in your room on Tuesdays.

Popcorn:  Really?  I’m on a camera?  I’ll try and keep smiling for my friends!
